Having walked down the canal from Pocklington, we decided to pop in for some lunch. As with most places at the moment, there was a reduced menu. This consisted of various platters to choose from, we opted for the veggie one, it was brilliant. The staff were very helpful and efficient and friendly. Please make sure you pop in, you won't be disappointed.
Dinner for two on a Saturday night. It was our first visit to the pub and when we walked in we were given some close scrutiny by the customers at the bar. But it was relaxed enough and a chap actually made room for me at the bar so I could order drinks, and that's something that doesn't happen everywhere. The staff were friendly and helpful and we felt welcome. The food was very good: steak & ale pie for me, plenty of meat, no gristle at all, lovely rich gravy, nice pastry and the accompanying veg was spot on. Sirloin for Mrs M: it was excellent, very tender and juicy. A really good steak. We'd definitely recommend the Melbourne Arms based on our evening there.

Had a family get together at The Melbourne Arms. There was something for everyone on the menu and the food was great. The portions were very large and the staff were friendly and helpful. Will definitely eat there again.
