Matara is a beautiful place with exquisite planting in it’s formal gardens, lovely interiors in the house and Centre spaces and some fabulous wild areas further afield. It has undertaken extensive rewilding of the land with native tree planting and also supports local charities and projects. Despite being located near a road it is a peaceful and welcoming space to unwind and relax in.

We visited during lockdown having received an email to say we could book time slots to visit. My partner and I stumbled across Matara while day dreaming about a wedding that may one day happen. After looking through the website we decided that Matara was “THE” place and proceeded to plan our dream wedding there (we aren’t engaged... yet!). Having received the above email we decided to venture out for our morning walk to Matara. We were blown away. It was peaceful, beautiful and more than we ever imagined to find. It confirmed everything we already knew it is indeed “THE ONE”. The staff members we saw and spoke with while wondering round were welcoming, friendly and helpful. I really don’t know quite how to explain our experience other than perfect.
