The Little Gem Cafe

Winter's coming and the snow is piling on but our bartender Madeline had kept us not only feeling warm and cozy... but relaxed and welome. The bar menu features many whiskey and bourbons that rival the greats. Ask her to pour the New Old Fashioned and you won't be disappointed. The balance of sweet and smokey dances on your palate. A must stop for the cocktail connoseur. I haven't felt so at home since COVid started. All the traits of a great bartender: attentive, caring, kind and achieves the perfect pour.

Went for the first time to The Little Gem Cafe for my fiance's 30th birthday yesterday and absolutely loved this little gem of a restaurant! We ordered two drinks, the little gem drink and the raspberry martini. Drinks were perfect! I hadn't had a drink since coronavirus started and this was amazing, very smooth, not too sweet (I love sweets, but cocktails tend to be just spoonfuls of sugar), literally perfect drinks. Also highly recommend the soups, I had the French onion and my fiance had the corn chowder... the corn chowder was a complete surprise, it was super delicious, and the flavors were not expected! For entrees I highly recommend the filet mignon, again, superb! Broccoli was perfect not overcooked and still had a crunch but not raw, the filet was perfectly made at medium well (can't do pink ) thoroughly cooked on the outside and quite juicy & tender on the inside. My fiance had the prime rib... I personally don't like that cut/ type due to the fat, but he enjoyed it and said it had great flavor. Dessert was also phenomenal! We had one complimentary dessert (chocolate mousse) and the creme brulee. I actually don't like chocolate flavored items, since it usually tastes super artificial, but again this mousse was delicious! It tasted like actual chocolate ! My creme brulee was also great as it is my favorite dessert. I really liked was the fact the desserts weren't too overpowering in artificial sweetness. Overall great food, our server was Monica and she was excellent along with our busser (didn't catch her name). Phenomenal service! Highly highly recommend this place! Drove in the cold from the NW suburbs and worth it!

We have frequented the Little Gem many times since moving to Oak Park last year, and have never had a sub-par experience. Specifically, since COVID hit, they were the first restaurant we ventured to try when dining re-opened and were not disappointed by the professionalism, cleanliness and safety measures in place. Still amazing food, wine and coffees as usual, now with peace of mind too. They get it right!

OMG the eggs benidict was amazing so freaking good! I added avocado on the side for an extra fee but it was a perfect compliment! Also they have 5 mimosa and Bloody Mary on the weekend with brunch! If you are looking for some where tasty to eat outdoors check out the little gem!
