Cosy open fires, the food is average and the staff are lovely.

We had booked a table for 6 during the in eat in to help out period. Now I’m a reasonable person and I totally get that this is an extremely busy period and as a result not to expect quick service, but..... When we arrived for our booking we were pointed towards our reserved table. Half an hour later not one member of staff had acknowledged us. I went to the bar and got someone’s attention and asked if we could order some drinks. The staff were very flustered and were hesitant about whether they could take my drink order. Eventually they did. I also asked for a menu. It was limited due to the offer period. Not a great deal available for the children. I returned to the table. 20 minutes later no drinks had arrived. The kids were getting restless. Finally a member of staff came over looking very stressed. She said she can take our food order but there would be at least an hours wait as the kitchen was so busy. This was just not possible given that we’d already nearly waited an hour. The issue I had was the long wait without any member of staff being attentive and that it took nearly an hour to be told that there would be another hours wait for food. We promptly left. One member of staff was apologetic. The point I made was that we should have been told about the extremely long wait time when we entered the pub or at least sooner than we were. At least have been offered and brought some drinks! Especially as we had young children with us, one of whom was autistic.

Fantastic Sunday roast in a lovely old pub with a great garden. Excellent service, good value, and a good range of non alcoholic beer for me, including Brewdog. Only the coffee needs improving but everything else was so good we're still giving five stars and hope to go back with friends soon.

Thank you to Chris and Antonia for the delicious take out pies... and of course the Flagon of beer went down well! Super lucky to have The Kings at the heart of our village
