Stunning food, menu full of original ideas whilst still feeling familiar and not going to crazy!! Genuine care taken both front and back of house to deliver a great product and service in an idyllic English pub set in a beautiful location!! Fully recommended

Beautiful location and atmosphere. Staff is super friendly in person. They have a lovely drink and wine list. And the food is so good that only a Michelin critic can enjoy it! In fact, after eating here, I had to question every meal I'd ever had in a restaurant only to realize that I'm just not qualified to have an opinion. As was pointed out to me by the owner in response to a previous version of this review, I should stick to what I know - lowbrow, simple foods. It was charming how they took time to get to know me by looking at everything else I'd ever reviewed on Google Maps to really understand my perspective and then include that in their comments. I wish I'd given my feedback while there so that I could personally receive a detailed explanation about where and how I am wrong. The three-star rating is indicative of my poor performance and inability to appreciate the culinary experience on offer at The George. I recommend anyone interested in a similar experience to make a booking posthaste!
Went for my birthday for lunch and had a lovely time! Tables are socially distanced and all covid safe measures are in place. Service was fantastic and all the staff made you feel at home. We had every item on the small plate menu and I have to say I was so impressed with each one. We even ordered another round of our favourite small plates! The food is locally sourced which is also fantastic. Unfortunately didn't manage to get any photos of the food as it was all eaten very quickly Would recommend whether you happen to be in the area or not; it is well worth the drive out there!
If you want bland pub grub and a 1.50 pint of beer after your annual hike this is not the place for you. It has fallen out of favour with some infrequent \hikers\ who are scathing of the business model of this amazing little place (which has to pay its huge overheads and so can't rely on once a year hikers who want lots, for very little) However, if you love top quality food & warm, friendly service. If you love epic scenery, if you are fond of old world charm then this place will be for you. My first time but it won't be my last time. We will definitely be coming again in the spring or summer. It was worth every minute of the long drive. The menu was reassuringly concise, the ingredients top quality, and the chefs had created the dishes with intelligence ...and love. As soon as the amazing bread course arrived we knew it was all going to be fabulous. And it was. Everything was rammed with so much flavour. It was faultless. I nearly didn't manage a pudding but I'm glad that I decided to squeeze one in. The dark, silky & luxurious chocolate cremeux managed to find a few empty crevices in my very full & happy tum. Thank you for a wonderful lunch.
Took refuge here on a wet and cold walk. Regret not having lunch as the bowls of chips we got we homemade and excellent. Even offered us towels to dry off the kids. Very warm and friendly place.
