Great pub, we went for drinks only, but food also looked great.

Visited for dinner on a Saturday night in September with my girlfriend. First impressions: very quaint and quiet location in the sleepy village of knossington... the pub is cottagey, quirky, cosy ...inside the decor has the feeling of England in the 1920s/30s. As you’d expect in a pub named “the fox and hound”, there are lots of paintings, pictures and objects related to foxes and hounds. Ambience: we arrived early so was quiet and a tad awkward but soon became lively as the pub filled with what seemed like locals, mainly of the older and posher end of the clientele spectrum. Food: From reviews I had read earlier, I was anticipating meagre portions, extreme fine dining and was expecting to have to fill up later but the food was very much plentiful. Quality easily matched its quantity too. We had whitebait and fishcakes for starters which came with warm homemade bread, sirloin steak and chicken schnitzel for mains accompanied by-sautéed potato’s and vegetables. All of the food was delicious! Wine was of a good quality too. Staff: all staff were polite, friendly, smiley and efficient. We didn’t wait long to have our orders taken, the food came quite quickly and there weren’t huge gaps between courses. The bill came promptly too. All in all , I’d definitely recommend the place to anyone who enjoys good quality food in a country setting. A 4.5 from me.
Lovely pub, fabulous staff and there was a cool dog.
Was privileged to be invited to a large private function there (apologies to any locals who couldn't get in for their regular Sunday drink), with which the pub coped admirably. Food was excellent ( as was the company), all enjoyed in very pleasant surroundings. Many thanks to all involved.
Without a doubt simply the best. Fantastic food, ambiance and service. Kate runs an amazing rural pub and restaurant.
