Last September The Chequers held a small wedding reception for my wife and I and 15 guests. This was the maximum due to Covid Restrictions. The food, service, venue and attentiveness was sublime. I cant speak highly enough of the restaurant and its staff. We had our own personal drinks waiter who was on top of his game all day. We made a few changes to how we wanted things to go on the day and this was met with such a happy to help attitude. I strongly recommend you try The Chequers for anything from a quiet drink to an event its fantastic!

Fab food and great atmosphere. Can sit outside even if chilly as they have heaters and warm blankets on the side terrace. Well worth a visit.
First impressions of the pub were good, it's in a picturesque location and it's easy to find. Upon arrival, I was greeted with 'mask?' at the door. I had literally just walked from the car park and hadn't entered the pub at this point, so a polite request to put on my mask would have helped here, especially as the new rules had only been in place for a matter of days. Once I put my mask on, the man at the door then said something patronising about being aware of the rules. Again, I'd literally just got out of the car and hadn't entered the pub and I was always going to wear my mask upon entering the building. I get he's concerned about the regulations but give me a minute, I'm here for Sunday roast, not the next WHO meeting. Once we were in, the service was a lot better and the food was pleasant. I wouldn't say the pub is value for money, there are certainly cheaper roasts in the area that are just as good, if not better. I probably would have left a more positive review had the greeting at the door been one you'd expect from a village pub, rather than some weird bouncer-like demand. Hopefully, he has more time to practice that over the next few weeks.
We got out booking via OpenTable app and it was quick and easy. Atmosphere was great, nice staff and we loved the food. I do recommend the beef fillet it's absolutely delicious. Will definitely come back!
Love this place. Very neat and modern with friendly staff. Great spot for lunch as well as outside for watching the cricket across the road. Would definitely come back!
