Fabulous traditional pub, run by family with great food at a great price. I went there with some friends on a Sunday lunch, and although we were among the first there, within half an hour the place had filled up. The menu has a good selection for what I would class as the top end for pub food, so there is something for everyone. It’s always a good sign that you’ve already chosen your dessert from the board before you sit down to choose your main! There were plenty of helpful and friendly staff, so ordering and service were swift and dispatched with a smile. This place might be halfway between the back of beyond and the middle of nowhere, but the seclusion adds to the charm, and the buoyant vibe and happy faces pay testament to a great traditionally styled pub where the owners take an obvious and genuine attention to service and atmosphere. A bit of advice: if you are going there for Sunday lunch, stop eating on Wednesday…you may be able to fit all the courses in then. I have to give The Candlestick 5 stars because it ticked all the boxes and I will be coming back :-) Top tip: Sunday lunchtime is very popular, so book in advance!

Quirky village pub. Dogs allowed makes it a ideal location to chill with good beer and food

I have been going to the candlesticks on and off for the last 40 years or so, even back to the days of stan and Carole...always a lovely rural pub and friendly. However when I visited a week ago, on Sunday, I was shocked at the total rudeness and abruptness of one member of staff, a young woman serving. She needs to work on her PR skills as I'm sure it's not the image the pub wants to project. It totally spoilt my visit!

A welcome stop on a long walk on a hot day. A real country pub overlooking some glorious countryside. Friendly staff and beer again reasonable prices.

I'd heard really good things about this pub but unfortunately they proved misleading. We went for a Sunday roast, the meat had clearly been reheated, the parsnips were so undercooked that they inedible and the roast potatoes greasy. Considering the near 15 per head for one course a great disappointment. The staff however were friendly and food for other tables that wasn't a roast looked to be fresh and of good quality.
