Really lovely food. Nice people and good service. Plenty of space and felt comfortable in these difficult times. Prices may have gone up since we were last there but Chef excellent!

Quality Through & Through! This small public house in Appledore offers the same quality and service as you would expect to find in a fine dining restaurant in London. Firstly the service we received from the two young men and the young lady was second to none, in fact any other company reading this, visit and learn! As well as this, the food offered, (with the exception of one item), was of the highest standard and we are already planing on visiting again in January (even though it's a 45 minute drive). The food is fresh, perfectly cooked and of the highest standard.... The lamb pie is to die for! The 'only' small let down out of the three different potato sides we had was the chips, these being very, very greasy (which was a shame)... Every thing else was bloody amazing as well as the New York cheese cake. What really did make it for us though was the service from the two young men and the young lady.... Thank you for a very memorable experience.

We wanted a quick drink and a bite to eat after a stroll beside the Royal Military Canal, and the Black Lion was perfectly situated at the nearest end of the High Street to the footpath. A good quantity of well spaced tables and chairs had been placed out the front, some with a convenient cover, ready for the inevitable summer downpour. Inside, they had a couple of ales on offer, but evidently their kitchen stops producing food on the dot of three, as they weren't able to provide lunch despite us being a matter of seconds beyond the deadline. It's their perogative but one night have expected them to be more welcoming of the business in the current circumstances. Never mind,, it's a good place nonetheless.

We used the NHS app to check in. There’s a reason there were so many having lunch at distance tables ...starting with the smiling warm “virus!” welcome and immediate bar service. Everyone was enjoying good food and company we could feel it. Bikes outside we couldn’t enjoy a inside table lunch so we had lovely good value food..pate and tomato and mozzarella. And the clouds parted and the sun shone on us as we tucked in.
