Located up steep stairs in the centre of Kirkcudbright, The Auld Alliance pitches \Scottish Cuisine with a French Influence\ . Food and wine excellent, service a bit slow, but the place was rammed. Will be back.
If you read the reviews it often states \best food in town\, this may be accurate, however it doesn't say much for the other establishments in town. May have just been a bad night when we were there, but at least the staff gave a good performance, it could have made a very entertaining scetch show! Fine dining it's not, but if you lower your expectations then you will be fine enough.
Very good food at reasonable prices. The restaurant is upstairs and is fairly small. I went with the chef's recommendations and was pleased with the quality of the offerings but could have easily demolished what the rest of my table ordered. Very pleasant evening. Well worth a visit.
