Went to the Angel after reading good reviews but, to be honest, I wish we hadn’t wasted our money. We asked for three teas, we were given three small cups (coffee cup size), half filled with water, with a tea bag in each. One teaspoon between us. The tea was awful, bitter and strong, the waitress was very good and bought us a fresh pot with tea made from pg tips. We then waited for our starters: One prawn cocktail with a rose Marie sauce - the few prawns had a big dollop of mayonnaise on top, I had to send this back, it was returned with the correct sauce on. Baked Camembert- this was good Whitebait - the fish was coated in something and was so overcooked it was breaking up, hard and inedible - returned to kitchen. I checked with the waitress if they had a chef on, she said they did. Main courses: Breast of duck, duck spring roll and some duck ball things made with potato. This was accompanied by some sort of marinated radishes they just tasted like neat vinegar. The duck I asked for it to be pink, it wasn’t but, it was edible, the spring roll was lovely, the balls were very salty. Pork belly - very nice Dressed crab, salad and new potatoes- the crab was very small and the potatoes were hard. We asked for the bill, they had included the whitebait so I asked them to remove it, the waitress took the bill back and requested the whitebait be removed from the bill. Whoever made the decision refused and said they were already giving us a discount with the government ‘eat out’ offer. We paid the bill and informed the waitress that they have lost more than the price of some whitebait, we are moving to the village but will never visit them again. I still question whether they had an experienced chef working.
