While staying in Tideswell on a walking holiday I walked to the pub from the village one evening for a meal. Quite a pleasant place which has adapted to the Covid regulations well. The staff were friendly and efficient and the beer was good and well priced. However, when I received my meal, a steak and ale pie with chips, I've got to say it was the smallest portion I've ever seen. It looked as if a standard 9 inch pie had been cut into a dozen portions. It had also obviously been reheated in a microwave as the crust was floppy. Chips which are as cheap as, well, err, chips, were also few in number. To be fair when I brought it to the attention of the waitress she did say she would inform the kitchen and offered me more. I did wonder later whether I was being unreasonable but the next night I went to another pub in Tideswell and had the same dish, at the same price, and it was much nicer and twice the size. Next time I'm in Tideswell I know where I'll be going for dinner and I will be giving them an appropriate review.
Good amount of space inside to distance and very pleasant staff. Quite traditional pub food well prepared and reasonable prices. A reasonable car park capacity.
OMG the Cajun onion rings.... THE CAJUN ONION RINGS.... great staff, great service. Tasty food at good prices.... BTW did i mention the Cajun onion rings.?.?.?..???.
On Saturday lunchtime we went here for a meal, just as a change of scenery. Very old pub, from 1670 ish, good food, lots of old photos on the walls, it is possible for them to light a fire in the multi fuel stove (it was warm enough not to need it) lots of history, used to be a Coaching Inn. Staff were very friendly and it was quiet enough (sadly affected by covid-19 lockdowns in adjacent counties, yes it's a covid-19 safe pub) one of the chefs to bring us our food. The staff are friendly and welcoming. I had the American hotdog on a freshly baked French bread with various trimmings, my friend had a fresh ham sandwich with a bowl of Pumpkin soup. The Anchor is near Bakewell
