Have patience or don't go! Wednesday lunchtime: 2hr 15 minutes and only had the main course (which was very nice). Left after waiting ages for the desert which still hadn't arrived. The menu has changed - mostly burgers with an Asian twist plus fish and chips and a couple of Asian dishes - not what it used to be. Ambrette now deleted from our list of favourites.

Don’t normally (ever) give reviews but had a very disappointing experience here and I feel future customers need to know. The menu looked fantastic - and we were looking forward to eating here - but it fell well short of our expectations, especially as it is not cheap. The restaurant is tired-looking and didn’t seem particularly clean. There were a number of flies buzzing around and areas were quite dusty. The menu reads very well with inventive ingredients and the presentation is very nice but the execution seemed lazy. A lot of the food was deep-fried, which is not a problem in itself, but the oil seemed like it was old and dirty. Moreover some of the dishes didn’t match what we ordered from the menu e.g. we ordered a chocolate platter for dessert which was meant to include three different types of chocolate but it arrived without the white chocolate silk that was on the menu. When we pointed this out we were provided with a bowl of white chocolate shavings! Not great customer service and not a great look, seems like they were hoping we wouldn’t notice. I would give it one star but the fish for my main course did taste beautiful. It’s a real shame because I feel this restaurant has so much potential. My own feeling is that this was once a really nice place to eat but they have got a bit lazy and standards are dropping.

We arrived early for our lunch and was greeted by a friendly member of staff who engaged with us and was very pleasant and happy. We had the set lunch time menu, 2 courses, main and pud. Once we had ordered our main a complimentary starter, a pancake with some salad and a popadom arrived and set the standard for the meal ahead. Mains were as expected full of flavour and no fault could be found. Pudding, a chocolate tart with chocolate sauce and brandy cream, it was very rich, couldn't really taste brandy cream but still very nice. Highly recommend if you like great food, full of flavour, spicy Indian style food.
