Ferdowsi Street formerly Alaodowleh Street is a street located in Tehran. It is named after Ferdowsi and is the center of Tehran’s currency exchange trade. Ferdowsi was a Persian poet and the author of Shahnameh ("Book of Kings"), which is the world's longest epic poem created by a single poet, and the national epic of Greater Iran. Ferdowsi is celebrated as the most influential figure in Persian literature and one of the greatest in the history of literature. He was called "the Lord of the Word" and "the Savior of the Persian Language".

تندیسی از جنس سنگ مرمر کارارا به ارتفاع سه متر که به وسیلهٔ ابوالحسن صدیقی در سال ۱۳۳۸ ساخته شد و کار نصب آن در میدان فردوسی تهران را فرزندش، فریدون صدیقی انجام داد. این تندیس در ۱۷ خرداد ۱۳۳۸ طی مراسمی در میدان نصب شد. این تندیس در دوران پس از ساخت دچار آسیبهای فراوان شده\u200cاست که می\u200cتوان به موارد زیر اشاره داشت: شکسته شدن انگشت تندیس فردوسی در نتیجهٔ آویزان کردن پوستر و سپس چسباندن آن با چسب بدون رعایت تکنیکهای فنی و علمی مرمت، هم\u200cچنین ترک برداشتن این تندیس در نتیجه گرمایش و سرمایش، پوشاندن آن با لایه کنیتکس و رنگ کردن آن.
