This beautiful building dominates the centre of the world heritage town of the same name. It was constructed over 150 years ago of local stone and since then has been one of the main cultural and social centres of this charming town on the Western fringes of Dartmoor National Park.
When visiting Tavistock you cannot miss this magnificent old building which stands proudly in the centre of the Town this place was designed by Edward Rundle who was the architect to the 7th Duke of Bedford.It opened on the 2nd of February 1864 with a lavish grand ball which has said to have gone on until 4am in the morning.The statue of the Duke of Bedford stands prominently in front of the Town Hall building it self making it look a very grand establishment.
We had our wedding reception here 2 weeks ago. What a fantastic team and a superb venue! We had afternoon tea in the Rundle Room, then they seamlessly moved everything into the big hall for the celebrations to continue with our live band. (I didn't even notice it happening!) The staff were absolutely superb. Completely professional, friendly and incredibly helpful. They worked as a team with the caterers (Exe Catering) and with the band (The Embezzlers) We really couldn't fault them if we wanted to. Great communication right from the start. Stress free. Thank you so much to all concerned. We cannot recommend this venue and the team highly enough!
The Town Hall is a must to visit. It puts you back into the era it was designed for. Lavish velvet ceiling to floor curtains. Wood panelling and wrought iron hanging lights with flower detail. Beautifully kept. It also has a large Stage and dance Hall. Clean toilets. Well stocked and comfortable Bar area when required.
