One of the best parts about relocating is trying out all the local restaurants in the area until you find your favorites . But the best part really comes when you find that spot on the first try. We’ve had great homemade Indian food and our standards are HIGH, I have to say every dish we ordered here was delicious. I’m always weary of ordering lamb anywhere and yet the lamb korma here was one of my two favorites, the other was the bhindi masala. This place has definitely earned our trust and business. This really is an amazing place. Lamb is so tender and everything has amazing flavor! I will for sure keep coming back!
I am giving 2 Stars based on quantity, ready on time, and nothing from the order missing. Sadly, quality and flavor were lacking. We ordered the Mixed Appetizer, Mixed Tandoori Grill, Palak Paneer, and Bread Basket. Mixed Appetizer was a variety of fritters/pakodas. Some were decent (onion bhajia) but some were obviously not fresh (chili and potato). Mixed Tandoori Grill: This was the most bizarre and unappealing version we have EVER had. The single ground meat kebab was dry and hard, and nearly impossible to chew. There were 2 pieces of boneless chicken breast (malai chicken, I think) that were decent, but everything else, including the shrimp, tough boneless lamb, and other tandoori chicken pieces were were SWAMPED in a weird, bland, watery faux red tikka-like sauce that ruined any seasoning the individual items may have had. I am Indian and have never in my life had a wet, sloppy tandoori grill plate. That sauce absolutely DID NOT BELONG on that 18 dish. My nails and fingers are stained orange from the bizarre orange slop despite 4 soap scrubs. The palak paneer was ok, though underseasoned. The spinach sauce just needed more salt. The paneer tasted like it was simply cut off the block and heated up in the sauce. The bread basket was disappointing. There was 1 fried puri and 3 naan of different types. 2 were somehow over crisped and soggy at the same time, and the 3rd had thick, doughy unpleasant parts. We will stick to Exotikka next time and give Taj a hard pass. No idea how it's won Best in Nashville 4 years running.
We ate at Taj Saturday night. The food was pretty good, the restaurant was full, and lots of people in line to pick up food orders to go. BUT... the phone rang incessantly throughout our dinner which made it very hard for the four of us to enjoy our dinners. Not a relaxing night out.
