I came here looking for a piece of American Walnut for a gunstock project. It's a very charming place with a few old wooden buildings left from the 150 years they've been trading as a family owned business. Unfortunately there wasn't a suitable piece of wood available at the time from the offcuts. The gentleman helping me was very friendly and helpful and we discussed a full size timber board that would be available, but my project didn't warrant the cost involved in a full length, but the price was pretty reasonable. We also discussed alternative options in wood, but I think walnut is the way to go. I left empty handed at this time, but it was nice having a look around the old wood store and seeing the tools of the old times.

very disappointed with the service this company gives and the quality of there timber considering they are not cheap. There knowledge on joinery is very limited as I found out on delivery of my timber. the sill sections supplied were a joke, the salesman tried telling me that their standard sill section is as per picture on right hand side. but when ordering they accepted the description given by myself ie 95 mm flat top going down to 35 mm at the front was ok and understood. As you can see from the picture the sill on the left is a standard sill section as supplied by most companies. After returning them for a refund, I then managed to source the sills from Jewsons locally (there timber was of better quality and cheaper!). Unprofessional and rude.
I use sykes for timber for my school workshop. Never had any issues whilst using them. Employees are very friendly and answer emails promptly.
Mark is always very helpful and knowledgeable on the different types of timber. Best quality wood around.
Could not be more helpful regardless of the size of the order but beware : timber prices nowadays can bring a tear to the eye of the most hardened soul and their prices reflect this trend.
