This is not a review of the quality of the food. Sushi Katsu is the best sushi in Akron. The wait staff is horrendously negligent. The older waitress must not care. It took her 20 minutes to acknowledge us. It took her 45 minutes to get us our drinks. She only brought us our alcohol and never brought the water we requested. At this point we put our order in to go. We didn’t stick around to finish our dining experience. I’ve never had such poor service, when spending so much money. I will not be returning and will only be placing orders to go.

THE BEST sushi place out of all I have been to — true authentic gem, \hidden\ in the heart of Merriman Valley. This place is small, yet very cozy — but what amazed me is the quality and taste of food. Sushi and salads are beyond amazing, I am out of words to describe to be honest... UPDATE: We’ve been vegan for a while and I had to revisit this place to see what vegan options they offer — to my surprise, there were a lot!!! Seaweed salad and appetizers, some stuff made out of silken tofu, several veggie sushi and sushi rolls and more... this place just gets it, they get it!
Food is incredibly hit or miss. Slow service most of the time. Zero Covid precautions followed by staff.
Sushi is great! Kudos to the chefs. The reason for the bad rating though is because of the older waitress we have had the last two times we've been there. The first time it took them about 15 min to get our drinks out. I would understand if it was busy but due to covid there were only like five tables and there was another server so I know she wasn't busy. During our meal she yelled at the sushi chefs for turning away people because they were at capacity saying something along the lines of that they were turning away money. No lady, you turned away money when you didn't take care of your guests and yelled at your colleague for practicing good covid protocol. The second time, my gf was picking up. Same woman was at the counter and without looking up she noted it was almost ready. Okay. . . Gf came after the time that was set and that's fine that they aren't ready at that second but have some good customer service if you're behind. When it was ready she only said the price and seemed grumpy about that too. Maybe she was having a bad night both nights but when you're in the waiting business you can't let that get in the way of your interactions with customers.
We could not get in due to table limitations due to Covid. It's not a big place, maybe a dozen tables - a dozen seats at sushi bar. The food looked great, smelled wonderful if you like freshly made sushi. May want to call ahead to make sure you can get in. Looks like they do a lot of take out too. We will try again to try it out.
