A truly lovely house with an impressive family history. The free tours are informative and add context to the premises as well as providing early access. Stunning grounds and ample parking. Local artwork is also on display and available for purchase. Nice cafe for drinks and nibbles. Drops one star as it is quite expensive for a relatively small house that is easily explored in the space of 90 minutes.

A beautiful old house with a sad sad history now restored. Informed and charming guides in every room who were a pleasure to talk with and enhanced the visit. Nice tea rooms well tended gardens and a truly well worthwhile visit.

A beautiful house and huge garden at the end of a fascinating old style town. Here you can find a mix of era from the medieval to the family who still living there in one of the wings of the house . Me and my partner are National trust member, we love go around every weekend and visit new places and I confirm that Melford Hall has really touched us in a positive way. The staff has been really helpful delighting us with some extra tips regarding the previous owners. I recommend to visit this amazing site

Beautiful Tudor house but still retaining the feel of a family home, in a lovely setting on the green at Long Melford. Beatrix Potter was a regular visitor and you can see her bedroom and some of her beautiful illustrations. One wing of the house was damaged by fire and rebuilt in the 1930s, and that part of the house is less attractive and more like a slightly dowdy family home but the overall feel of the house is lovely, and the guides were very informative. We went on a Sunday and although the house opened at 12 that was only for guided tours and we had to hang about until 1, so be warned.

Yet another lovely National Trust property & garden - smaller than most but very well worth a visit, the house is beautiful, a welcoming feeling, full of history & interest, there are some spectacular maritime paintings, armoury, furniture, stained glass windows &, on a lighter note, the original Beatrix Potter \Jemima Puddleduck\ toy is on display (very sweet). Gardens are pretty too with a glorious display of Dahlias. Tearoom good, small shop & plant sale stand & (as always) the NT volunteers were knowledgeable, helpful & friendly.
