My family visited this mill when we were touring Ireland. The owner showed us through the mill, explained their process and how they keep their Victorian era spinning machines functioning. We were then taken to the upper floor where the weavers were hand making their blankets and fabric. It was a wonderful experience to see the process. Of course they also have a shop to buy their beautiful blankets, pillows, hats, scarfs, clothing, yarns etc. I encourage you to go see for yourself but you can also support them online. This business supports craftspeople who need to be supported and thrive in this day of industrialization and cheap, throw away manufacturing. I worry about their survival during COVID and the lack of tourists in Ireland.

Excellent products and service, we had an oversized sofa bed throw made for our camper here, it was the only place we could find with a loom wide enough to make a blanket big enough for our needs (240CM x 148cm). The product was sent by Studio Donegal to our home in Switzerland. We were even able to get a second invoice for importation super fast to avoid a return from customs. Thanks Tristan for following up so quickly and thanks to Sandra for sending the second invoice.
We went on a Saturday, not realizing they don’t weave or spin on the weekends. However, we were able to walk around and see the equipment, and the gentleman running the store shared a lot of interesting information about the weaving process and looms there. One of my favorite stops this trip - we left with lots of inspiration and yarn. Very friendly and informative.
Every employee here was really nice explaining their work and machines. The chief helped us and took us to the back. We got to select raw wool and he carted it for us. Really nice colors. The Donegal designs are less traditional than the other mills, which is nice. The location of the mill is right in the centre of Kilcar. Make sure to follow the coastal route to Killybegs. Amazing views and beaches.
Visiting Studio Donegal was a dream come true for me. They card & spin the wool and then weave it and then sew the most gorgeous clothes and home decor. The beauty and high quality of their workmanship is unmatched!! It was so difficult to decide what to purchase - it's all beautiful. The weavers were so nice and even interrupted their lunch to show us around.
Wonderful shop that spins and weaves the wool into clothing and beautiful rugs. They even took time to take us upstairs to show us the old fashion machines and explain how it all worked. They were the Sweetest people. A must see.
