I originally gave a good review on Dr. Steven Marks at Ear, Nose and Throat in Las Cruces. I had surgery for a deviated septum with him and after the surgery my nose had more airflow but the underlying condition of my sinus area feeling clogged did not go away. He tested me in his office for allergies and they turned out negative, so he went ahead with the deviated septum surgery. In my follow up appointments he prescribed a sinus migraine medicine which caused me to sleep a solid 12 hrs. and never able to shake the grogginess. I called the office to lower the dosage but he said to keep taking it. I never complained to him about migraines. He then told me go to a neurologist for a brain scan, which I did. The neurologist said my brain scan was normal and advised an allergist. Now a year later after seeing Dr. Marks I am now seeing an allergist and on day 3 of taking the prescribed medicines I am starting to feel some improvement . So, I had a brain scan which was not needed and this doctor who does not listen to his patients is actually the one who needs a brain scan, because he’s missing that part in his brain that listens to his patients. He congratulated himself on a perfect surgery instead and a year later my nose is not as open as it was. Think twice.

Went with my wife to see this doctor in order to treat sudden deafness. He did not read our chart which we had filled in meticulously. Therefore he was not aware that she was 6 months pregnant until we told him at the end our 20min consultation. Had he but glanced at her he would have been able to see that she was pregnant. He recommended an aggressive treatment but said we would need to change our travel plans to stay in the area to recieve it. This sounded reasonable so we did so, returning that same day for his last appointment of he day. We had some questions for him prior to his injecting steroids into her ear, however he was distracted and annoyed by some of the specific questions we had about the treatment. He could be heard loudly telling his staff in the hallway how glad he was that this was his last appointment for the week. After applying the anesthesia into the ear with a syringe (which we were later told by another doctor is not necessary) my wife who normally has a very high pain threshold cried out suddenly. She then calmly asked if the actual injection would be more painful. And then he lost his temper. Loudly telling us he doesn’t have time for this. And that he is just ending the procedure then on the spot. He told us he has a dinner with his wife and other appointments and that he doesn’t need this hassle. The lack of empathy for a pregnant woman who has lost her hearing and who had changed her travel plans and was far from home was astonishing. She left crying. The staff called us up the next day and apologized. It did not sound surprising to them. Needless to say. This man should probably not be practicing medicine.

Dr. Marks was very thorough in his exam and listened carefully to my concerns. He provided a diagnosis in a way that was thorough and respectful. He then suggested a course of treatment and outlined possible next steps. A very professional, supportive, encouraging visit.
