A step back in time in a good way. A shop full of tempting gifts with service rare to find these days. A delightful store.

Three words to describe this place...Posh Jumble Sale. I have never been in a shop with has such a random selection of stock, the merchandising has a look of, 'just put it there'. No thought or strategy. The shop seems to be designed to fustrate the customer, it is cramped, and awkward to navigate. Forget going there if you have a pushchair, children, or are in a wheelchair. Sale items are in bins or like the cut glass and crystal, balanced precariously on small tables. I asked when the January sale was to end and was told, 'when all the sale items are sold...' Ok.....really helpful. The sale cutlery is on the floor in boxes, while the display cases are full of ghastly chinawear. Who is the buyer? How do they decide on the stock to buy? The cramped basement aspires to be a mini Lakeland and smells of damp and the cafe upstairs reminded me of Acorn Antiques, including the staff. All of this is a great pity as it has potential to be something truly fantastic however, it is a family business and I suspect that the owners have a 'we've always done it this way and we are not changing' attitude. Sadly, I think this business will slowly die as my partner and I (both in our 50s) were the youngest customers in there. Some staff seemed keen to help however the overall impression I got was an air of indifference, the managment was nowhere to be seen. Finally, I would recommend any trainee retail managers to visit there incognito as it is a great example of how a shop should not look.

Family have shopped here for 30 years and apparently I look like a thief.... My friend is furnishing their house and I noticed Sincalirs had some cutlery on sale, so I took a photo and what's app it to him. One sales assistant in particular had been following me very closely and abruptly told me not to take a photograph. Firstly, if you don't want people taking photos put signs up...museums do, why can't you? That way it's not embarrassing for the un-knowing customer. She proceeded to follow me and I'd had enough. It became apparent that the sales assistant thought I was going to steal something. I turned to my mum who was purchasing a vase and explained what had happened, then on passing the assistant on the way out I explained I was taking a photo for my friend, who replied with \well that's okay then\. No, I will be advising my friend to buy anything they need for their home anywhere else. The sales assistant proceed to tell the store manager, my mum who was still waiting on her vase asked the lady to stop taking as she was talking about me. The woman announced to my mother it was her right to explain to her manager what had happened and there have been a lot of break ins so what she did wasn't un called for.... so I look like a thief?! Obviously my mother left the vase and congratulations Sinclairs your discrimation against 'young people' (I'm in my late 20s for the record) has lost you not 1 but 6 customers. A word to the wise, print signs that say 'No photos' and maybe invest in some sales training or a lesson in manners to your staff.
