On January 29, 2021 @ 6:10 p.m., I contacted Caffe Latte on Grand Avenue in Saint Paul, MN via telephone to place a curbside order. After being on hold for over 6 minutes in my car outside, a female employee took my call. I told her I had a medical exemption for the mask and she told me to “just come in. If you have an exemption no one will ask you anything and I’ll let everyone know.” My assumption was that she felt overwhelmed with orders, hence my long wait time on hold. I entered the restaurant at 6:17 p.m. and stood in line, but moved to the soup counter. The soup employee (male) asked me if I had a mask. I explained that I had called and would not be asked. As I went to pay for my soup, the male manager (assuming his title), was very forceful in telling me to pull my scarf up, ignoring my medical exemption. He refused to let me pay for my food and began escorting me out to the hallway, even after I explained that I was told to come in by one of his employees. He brushed it off and stated that he doesn’t tell his employees that, and that I wasn’t welcome to order at the counter. There were multiple other tables of seated customers without masks. I asked him if this business discriminates against people with disabilities, which he ignored. I told him it was very sick, and left the restaurant. I called to place a complaint at 6:23 p.m. when I returned to my car. A male employee answered and was understanding and apologetic. I am African American. This is how people of my color were treated at eateries for decades. I have a medical exemption for the mask and should not be discriminated against for any reason, especially not a disability. This was sick behavior and should not be tolerated. The action that manager took, and his employee, was not a reasonable accommodation in this situation, as I made a request to have curbside pickup. My medical exemption poses a direct threat to my safety and the liability of the business.

Very cozy and unique place. It's pricey but worth it. The soups and salads are delicious. The cashier guy helped me to carry the trays upstairs, very nice of him.

Great food, the girl who served us food & cake was awesome. Perfect for our little date that was way over due. Everything was great until we went to pay for our cake at the bakery line. Rude girl cashier, telling us to wait in a line when we had already waited in a line to get our cake and just needed to pay for it. Was about to just walk out with the cake. Im not gonna let that ruin the nice time we had and everybody else that was really nice.

Went to pickup a cake I ordered online, there was one client in front me. I stood behind waiting for my turn, she finished with that customer instead of helping me next she went over to the salad bar to have a good 2 min conversation with her co worker. She then came back and completely ignoring me and she asked the people behind me if she can take thier order. One star is to much for how I was treated, black isn't respected here. I truly regret for spending my money here but never again.

It’s quite distant from my place but the cake was worth the trip. I like spread samplers too. I like the atmosphere of cafe latte and I hope I can try other menus soon.
