We'd never visited St James Tavern before, and were pleasantly surprised! Lovely old pub, service and staff were helpful and polite. They use gluten free batter for the fish and chips as standard - amazing news for a coeliac... it was delicious, and a big portion!!! Topped off with a couple of bottles of gluten free beer too - it was a wonderful (and filling) couple of hours. Would definitely recommend and return when I'm next in the area!

I had the pleasure of having Christmas Dinner here back in 2019 and I still rave about it today to anyone who will listen. I travelled from Wales to Winchester with a family group (you can't beat a girly weekend Christmas shopping trip) and we were lucky enough to book a table here for Christmas dinner. The Tavern is cosy without feeling claustrophobic, and was warm and inviting. The staff on duty were brilliant and were incredibly helpful and friendly. The food was just amazing (I had the slow cooked beef and it was incredible so thank you to the chef and kitchen staff) and there was a large range of drinks available. The young girl behind the bar made a top notch whiskey sour which may have resulted in me waking up with a hangover the next day (but totally worth it). Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.Unfortunately covid stopped our annual shopping trip last year but we're hoping for Christmas 2021 :)

Cosy pub, good beer and food. Staff doing their best but perhaps one more on duty would help as most customers not attended to upon arrival for 1-2 minutes.

Gorgeous little spot! It was empty as my group wandered in. Of course the drinks were average price for a pub, but the food was decently priced and was amazing! Even the garlic bread was gourmet! We sat outside, and the little garden is lovely and atmospheric. Inside it is stylish, but is classic pub with a lot of charm with lovely improvements on the typical formula. Also they have a dog!!
