We love St Albans, it's where my wife and I got married, and we've never left!! Re-affirmed our faith and are now regular church goers.

Out for a walk and fortunate to arrive while lovely ladies finishing their monthly clean. Peaceful church with site bathed in prayer since 11th century. 2 old windows from Hampton court; 2 modern one of which remembers the Hartley mining disaster; the other the resurrection. Don't miss the memorial round the back to the disaster - very moving if you take the time to read it.

This is the large church you can see on high ground at Earsdon and from miles around. The church is big and has substantial grounds which cover many eras. Possibly the most famous burial(s) at this church are from The Hartley Pit Disaster which occurred at New Hartley during the 1860s. That burial plot is marked with a large monument in dedication to those who perished. The memorial is kept very tidy and was recently renewed with extra seating for visitors and a lovely pathway placed down once you get around the side of the church tower. I advise anyone passing to have a look at the hard work everyone's been doing. If you want solitude and space to think then this is one of the best. Ample seating, great views, quiet and if it's breezy that day simply head to a seat that's sheltered by walls or trees. For me this location has been very helpful in allowing me to process my thoughts. The wardens and volunteers at the church are very helpful and know their information very well indeed. Again I've had dealings with them and they helped myself and group I was with to get extra information and to look at things hidden out of sight. I don't think I've reviewed a church before but this one deserves it. Well done everyone :)
