I was there from March 1969 until May 1971 Great place to be. Best time of my young life. The exchange rate was 4 Marks to a dollar so beer and food was cheap. I went back a few years ago and it wasn't' the same.
I was stationed there from '89-'92. Got there in my early 20's. Loved it. The country is beautiful and the people are great. Fantastic food and festivals.
I was stationed in 1982/1983. I was in the Army working in HEADQUARTERS BATTERY. We where there for support. 2/62nd AIR Defense Artillery Unit. I was 19 years old at the time. I lived on the German economy in a town called Wittlich ( spelling maybe wrong) but I enjoyed the culture. The German soldiers I encountered where very nice. Some was as you g as 15 years old. Enjoyed Bitburg also. The food was really good. Played basketball, went to the bowling alley often. Very small Base back then. But had some great times. Went to the field svery month. It’s a very very cold place. Appreciated serving my country. Greatest moved I decided as a young man.
Great place, I used to be a trainer of F15 there, what reminds me the most is that I once saw a SB2C Helldiver Attack Bomber there. My father flew one as well.
