South Essex golf club review I was a member of this club for several years when it was under management with Crown Golf. It has a thriving and welcoming members section. In fact, I joined because of the friendliness of the members. The course is well maintained and beautiful to play on. On my membership card, I had a residual amount of, circa, 150, to use for food and drinks. Then Covid happened and the club was under new management by this time. During Covid, my membership was suspended. Post Covid the new management informed me that my ‘suspended’ period will only be added if I renewed my annual membership.!! Unfortunately my personal situation changed and I couldn’t renew my membership. Then the nastiness started when I asked for a refund of the balance on my club card. After several years membership, the club told me NO using about 6 paragraphs of long email. I even offered that a society that played at the club use the money, the club did not respond. The attitude is, I dare you to take me to court This has left me with a sour taste. My suggestion, when you sign up or hand the club money, be prepared for a court case or at the very least, employ a solicitor. 5star for the course and members Nil star for the management Shame. Real shame

There are plenty of exciting changes at the South Essex Golf Club. Operation of the Club and it’s 3 nine hole courses (Heron, Hawk and Vixen) has returned to the family that own the site, which ends the tenure of Crown Golf. There’s certainly some significant investment taking place to raise the status of the Club with a new fleet of GPS buggies, refurbished members bar, Toptracer being installed in all the range bays and a large club house extension taking place that will house a new function and events room. The course has benefitted with a tidy up of the rough removing brambles, some trees and cutting back around fairway edges. I’m told there’s a lot more to come over the coming months. Loved playing the challenging Heron and Hawk courses on a beautiful late Summer September morning. All the staff I met were welcoming and enthusiastic. This is the type of Club I want to be a member of so I decided to take the plunge and join the Club as a Gold 5 day member.
We've played here several times before so we know how wet it can get but this is about when we played here on Christmas eve , When we arrived we were met outside the clubhouse by a guy with a clipboard who took our name and tee time , He then told us that the course was very wet and because of this he gave us a free 2 ball voucher to be used by March 2021 , So basically they took your money and gave it back to you , We was well impressed with this in fact we was double impressed , Went up to the starters hut and again got told how wet the course was , We were told the greens are very good but the tee's and the fairways are wet and that the 5th (par 5) had been converted into a par 3 because how wet the fairway was (Actually its a very nice par 3) over a bush , Back to the course wetter than an otters pocket and I don't think i've ever walked off a course so dirty , this is not a criticism , We were told how wet it was before play and the fact the voucher was given was a very well received bonus , You can see they are doing some serious work on the course , Whilst we were there trees being pulled out and burnt , tees being dug up for drainage plenty of other work going on as well , There is only 1 criticism the artificial grass you use on some of the temp tees is bloody dangerous on the 3rd & 18th my right foot just went from underneath me and if I was a senior golfer that's possibly a busted ankle , It's like its a cheap shiny artificial grass that you would find on a fruit and veg stall there no softness/spring and it seems like you just put it on a concrete base not sand , I think for the moment you'd be better off using old range mats as you have down for some of the other tees , This review is given 5 stars because of the voucher , It was a nice touch and it didn't have to be done , This course is going to be very very good in a few years time
Fantastic day out on the course. Started with a coffee and bacon roll. Good quick service They put my coffee into a takeaway cup when I was ready to go to the driving range. After warming up the guy explained the lay out of the course. I was joined by 3 friends and we took the advice to rent two golf carts ( very glad we did as it’s a big course). When we were done we went to the club house for a few cold beers. Service was friendly and quick. The manager came and asked how we had done and if everything was ok. ( same guy who had helped us before). Didn’t know he was the manager in the beginning of the day. Fun day out.
I have recently joined South Essex, having been a member at some of the 'best courses' in Essex and I must say I am extremely impressed by the works and improvements that have gone on at the club. I definitely think that south Essex will be challenging for one of the best courses in the area. The clubhouse and reception area look stunning and the course is in immaculate condition.
