Had a brilliant experience with the lovely Endocrine nurses and the team on Medical Daycare. My daughter needed a test involving a cannula and blood tests. She is extremely anxious and usually has big meltdowns in healthcare settings. The team were so patient with her and kind and reassuring. They were well prepared with distraction techniques, a lovely play therapist in tow etc. They remained calm and professional even when she was being difficult. It made it so much easier for us as parents, and my daughter will hopefully be calmer next time as she had such a good experience. The environment was so clean as well.

I was once a patient here. Had several MRI scans during my cancer diagnosis. During the MRI procedure I would be put their hands on me and I would be pinned down by force multiple times to be knocked out via the sedation gas. It was not that I refused to listen, I would be on the bed reading a book then next minute I would feel several hands all over my body and sedation has forced into me. Nothing was explained to me by the nurses to aid my terror. I would be screaming in fear but they did not care. The same scenario during my injections. I was treated like an animal. I spent the entire summer of 2008 in hospital and a bunch of nurses would swear at me and laugh at my fear/tears (I was alone some nights as my parents left me) and I experienced medical negligence too when the drip machine was on red alert as a poorly-experienced nurse completely missed my vessel and injected the needle into my muscle tissue causing my arm to swell twice it’s size. As a medical student myself I recognise the severity of this...I wish I could recall these people to file a lawsuit. I’m now 20 years old and 12 years later I still suffer from severe PTSD and chronic trauma from my experiences with Sheffield children’s hospital’s staff. Not to mention: my oncologist was meant to refer me to the adult hospital (as I’m no longer a child) to continue my CRUCIAL annual MRI scans and she “completely forgot” so I had to go through the entire elongated stress of that myself which left me MONTHS behind my vital checkups. I was allergic to one of the MRI tumour contrasts (causing SEVERE nerve pain) and she apparently “noted this down for next time” which was a lie as I was nearly wrongly injected with the same horrific contrast.

Even with the COVID-19 Situation they had my new born son put through consultations, investigations and operated on by the time he was 6 weeks old. From the first appointment to his op was only a 2 week time frame. While in there the staff were absolutely amazing and I cannot fault them one bit! We’ve had constant care since and they’ve been nothing but consistent with this! We’ve only had phone call appointments due to COVID but have spoken to the same doctor every single time and continue to remain under their care. Fantastic care all round, compared to my local hospital, Sheffield children’s hospital have been amazing. Thankyou.
