Great find. Was staying at the premier inn nearby and found this place on Google. Great quality, taste and value. Worthy of London Chinatown sit down restaurant quality. Will certainly visit again when I come up to Norwich.

We got a flyer through the letterbox and tried this place out today. The wonton soup is really good, as is the beef in black pepper sauce. But the star is the grilled dumplings. Easily the best I’ve had in Norwich.

The British Supreme Court for China was established under colonialism in Shanghai in 1865, lasting until 1943. (The nomenclature of Chinese takeaways is fascinating, n'est-ce pas?) Shanghai (meaning 'City on the Sea') rapidly expanded from being a small fishing village to being a major port and city during the Victorian era industrial revolution. Western influences led to Shanghai entering a rather decadent period in the Jazz Age, leading to the moniker 'The Paris of the East'. Which in turn inspired the nascent Communist movement as a counter reaction. That's Marxist dialectical materialism for ya in a nutshell. But what of the Shanghai Court of Norwich? It's a budget Chinese takeaway combined with a traditional English chippy, which seems the busier part of the premises. You may have to wait for your order to be cooked, but at least that means it's fresh. It's not gourmet hipster vegan fish and chips, but it is very traditional and very cheap for the decent sized portions. For what it actually is, it's very decent. The premises are clean and the staff are always polite despite it being situated in a rather rough neighbourhood. Also: wooden forks. So brownie points there. Save the dolphins and all that jazz!

Good chow main, lovely chips albeit very salty but to my taste
