Absolutely wonderful park! Trails are clearly marked with color coded trees and many of the trails connect to each other allowing you to get in a long or short hike. Some of the terrain can get pretty rugged, and there are trails loaded with tree roots, but that is also helpful for keeping a good grip on some of the steeper inclines. If you plan on visiting the falls or bluffs over the Potomac River, I highly recommend getting there before 9:30am. Those attractions get packed quickly. If you go earlier you'll have time to just sit and listen to the water and nature sounds around you-perfect for open eyed meditation. If you haven't been yet, you should really check it out!

A beautiful, easy to hike trail with excellent views of the water. There are some totally optional rock scrambles but otherwise it’s easy and family friendly. I saw lots of dogs! A great place to hike, but it can get extremely crowded. Parking is hard to find on weekends, especially on good weather days. We went during the week in the middle of the day and the parking lot was nearly empty and we saw maybe 10 people the whole time.

This place is gorgeous. A hidden gem. The hike has a lot of elevation to it... May not be ideal for those with bad joints. Otherwise, for families, kids, dogs, it's amazing. You can get very close to the water (or in it, I presume). There's a beautiful waterfall in one location. If you want to mainly get to the waterfall and the cute stepping \stones\ that you see in some reviewers pictures (thank you), start at the parking lot that's further north on Georgetown Pike (193). Google took us to the Southern entrance. I'm taking a star off because 1) there is hardly any parking space assigned to this preserve (a dozen spots in each of the two lots). There is, however, some street parking before the 1st (southern) lot entrance 2) we didn't find the trail maps to be particularly useful/to scale. Usually, we plan our hike/time once we've seen the map at the entrance. We weren't able to do that here and so it got dark by the time we left the park (with little ones).

Beautiful hiking experience. It's definitely worth the drive if you have the time. The only downside is the parking...which on the weekend can be impossible. If you can swing a weekday trip, you should. The terrain is relatively easy for those sure of foot, but I would probably not feel comfortable telling older people it's a cake walk. There's a lot of loose rocks, you have to cross streams on pillars about two feet to three feet apart. The views are great.

So beautiful! Did a little solo hiking and fell in love. Will be coming back!
