A friend planned to do her PADI Open Water Diver course at Scotty's in the Shangri-La's Mactan Resort and Spa. Given that the dive shop was within a five-star resort, we already had high expections. To our surprise, Scotty's was beyond what we imagined. The dive shop was very clean, well equipped, and spacious (with lovely outdoor classroom areas). What really impressed us are the staff: all were very accommodating and professional individuals. Scotty's location was also amazing as it is conveniently right by Shangri-La's marine sanctuary. Its proximity to other great dive sites gives options for more things to see. One interesting area was an old ship wreck infront of the shop (unfortunately, what's left of it is just the base). A big shout-out to Peter, Noah, Bernie, David, Lisa, and Mish who made an impact to our wonderful girls' dive trip. - Peter and Noah were very patient yet strong in terms of training my first-timer friend for the duration of her Open Water course. It was very impressive how hands-on they were. They were also able to elaborate the hows and whys of the skills needed to complete the course. - I had a great time with Bernie as he took me to my refresher dive. He can also take amazing underwater photos! ;) - Lisa and Mish took me to my first ever night dive. It was an amazing experience, something I know I would love to do again soon! Lisa took the lead and Mish made sure I was safe as he stayed closely behind. They definitely made me feel safe despite how nervous I was in the beginning of our dive. - Lastly, David! David was so helpful. He assisted us with our gear and just has this really cool personality! We highly recommend that you look for Noah as he has great attitude, patience, and skills in teaching. All in all, I'm very happy that we chose Scotty's Mactan for the Open Water and Enriched Nitrox courses. We cannot wait to come back very soon!

I had a great experience at Scotty’s at Shangrila Mactan! I initially signed up for the Try Scuba but ended up earning my Open Water Diver’s Certificate. I learned under Alvin and I felt comfortable learning under him as he is very patient and clear. He facilitated my curiosity to greater depths of learning and was more than happy to review and repeat anything I felt unclear about no matter how long it took. He can pick up on subtleties on your personality or how you feel and is able to adjust and bring you back to neutral - which I appreciate on times when I felt stressed from outside situations. I characterize these traits as great qualities to have in an instructor - patience, empathy, and professionalism which I attribute to Alvin. Alvin also went above and beyond to make sure the whole process went smoothly, that I was happy and had everything I needed, and even documented my first experience (which I am extremely grateful for). It was truly an honor learning under him and receiving my certificate was one of the highlights of my trip in the Philippines. I ended up shortening my stay at Shangrila but felt the good vibes from Alvin and the team at Scotty’s that I stayed. I’m going to miss visiting and learning over there and can’t wait to be back and visit. Other things to note on my personal experience: As a woman traveling on her own, I felt very comfortable at Scotty’s. Everyone was nice and accommodating and I felt safe. I’ve been to a dive shop down south and felt the opposite so I was nervous at first - but the team at Scotty’s is very professional and friendly. The venue has up to date equipment and facilities, is very organized, and clean. The place has good quality equipment that is taken care of very well. It’s also very spacious and everything has a place that is easy to navigate. It’s also very clean which I appreciated - bathroom, changing room, and showers. Thank you team and especially Alvin. I dived with Scotty's last Easter, this time I came back for the PADI AOW course. Peter is super helpful and efficient sorting out my queries prior to my arrival. My instructor Jordan is very professional and patient. While learning the skills, I was also able to enjoy myself throughout the course - the dive sites were beautiful, filled with plenty of corals and marine creatures in crystal clear water. Thank you Scotty's! :)
HELMET DIVING- Really a unique experience! It takes a minute to get used to the helmet but once you do it feels like it isn’t there! A must try experience for all you adventurous folk! Price is reasonable and the guides are very nice and friendly! Highly recommend
Helmet diving - Me and my girlfriend are advanced PADI divers and this was still an amazing unique experience! Would 100% recommend. Loads of fish down by the area of coral that you go down to, and the divers that are with you help to make it a truly memorable experience. Great value for money too!!
Helmet diving This is the best experience I have ever done with my family. The staff is super helpful and kind and made sure that we are having fun and being safe at all time. Strongly recommended for newbies. You won’t regret it!
