Scales & Scales is located on the trendy Thames Street in the heart of Newport. The restaurant gives coastal vibes with a homey touch. The food is authentic and freshly made to order. Scales & Shells is for the seafood lovers. The grilled octopus and shellfish sampler were the highlights of my meal. But you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. Drinks are delicious and the food is out of this world.

An excellent meal of raw, steamed, and fried shellfish! Backed by a tasty Sazarak and a local red ale. Service started spotty, but improved through the evening and it was clear from other interactions that the waiter was slammed when I arrived. Social distance was observed, and all staff were masked. I had the marinara mussels, raw oysters, and reconstructed fried oysters. Yum!

Visited on Saturday night based on a strong recommendation by a friend. Ordered Artichoke and mussels as appetizer. Then black bass, eggplant and zucchini for entree. All were quite forgettable. Very, very simply prepared and served by very busy waitresses.

My family and I arrived for dinner and were seated right away. However, we weren’t greeted by our waitress for a good twenty minutes (which feels more like an hour when with little kids ). It turned out to be a mix up which the waitress didn’t know it was her table. Food was average. I got the shrimp scampi which needed salt / was bland and my husband got the swordfish which he said was good, but needed salt as well. There is no kids menu here, even though they had cute kid coloring pages, so be prepared ahead of time if you have picky eaters. Ambiance is average.
