If you find yourself heading South from Aire sur L’Adour take a slight detour towards Gayon, just before the village is a very clean and reasonably priced restaurant called Sarl Au Rey. As with many rural venues the menu is heavily biased to meat so a bit of a challenge for vegetarians. After a bit of discussion in schoolboy/girl French the waitress kindly suggested going ‘off piste’ and soon a very nice mixed salad to start and omelette for main was before us. I went for the al a carte menu with Melon bathed in a local wine for my starter followed by Sirloin steak. Apple tart and coffee finished the meal off and a very nice bottle of local Chateau D’Aydie dry white wine. The restaurant was very busy at lunchtime, testament to it’s wholesome food and good value and service was still efficient and friendly.
