Nice place to visit. I think it is worth to take the cable car down do the gardens. I also felt safe in the cabin and it made a stable impression, I just wanted to remark that because of other comments here.

Very nice view and be ready to be on a quite high level. 5 per person for a return ticket - very reasonable price. Down there it was quiet and peaceful. Pure nature and strong waves.

A lovely cable car ride down to the seashore, a world away from the town above. Getting here, taking the tunnels thru from Funchal or a longer drive around through Machico makes for an excellent excursion. Be sure to park well above the cable car terminal, where the road is flatter. Then walk down the colorful steps to the terminal. 10 min ride down, you can enjoy a pleasant walk along the seaside, with views to the waterfalls and cliffs, with sea birds wheeling & riding the breeze up the cliffs. Spectacular!

Amazing views from the top. This cable goes to the beach where you can enjoy sea, waterfall and birds sound. Recommended
