Washington Bakery & Restaurant in San Francisco-Chinatown truly has the BEST Chinese Porridge in the Bay Area. I've been dining there with my family for the past 20 years and our server Anna is amazing. She has been taking good care of us since, and knows exactly what and how we like our food. The restaurant was recently remodeled back in December and is great to see that Chelsea (pictured) is running the business now. The Fish Filet Porridge, Preserve Egg & Pork Porridge, Chinese Fried Bread, Salt & Pepper Chicken Wings, Lemon Iced Tea is our top favorite items to order. The Won Ton Noodle Soup, Shrimp Dumpling Noodle Soup, Chicken Chow Fun, and Potstickers are delicious choices too.

I like the atmosphere inside here but the noodles soups and wontons are unacceptable. Today I had the wonton duck noodle soup and chicken rice. The overall restaurant is mediocre at best, however the dishes I’ve had here will keep me away forever. Honestly I feel that my dog could make a better noodle soup than this place. For starters, the broth was sweet, sweet from the gallons of MSG it has in it. For a broth to have a lingering sweetness of MSG it would need an astronomical amount of MSG with every ml of broth. To add on, the wontons fillings looks and taste like octopus that’ve been sitting in bleach and seasoned with flecks of moldy fatty pork bits. And they were suppose to be fresh shrimp and pork wontons. Beware of the soup that comes with the chicken rice dish as well, I still have MSG lining my tongue and it’s been 4 hours since I drank it. The porridge was a sticky mess as well. I would skip this avoid this place.
