This was a great vacation! All meals are paid for, the chow is great, and the chow hall staff couldn’t be better! The instructors are so nice and they teach you very well, they will also kindly help you with working out, it is definitely the most physically fit I’ve ever been! About 3/4 of they way through you get to take a trip and shoot rifles and go on nature walks, the walks do have some gentle slopes but nothing you couldn’t handle. At the very end you have the grand finale and you have a blast camping and hiking and you finish it off with an amazing breakfast!

I was stationed @ MCRD as a Corpsman in the early 90's. It was amazing to see the recruits enter as teenagers and leave as Marines! Oorah!!! I have many memories of MCRD but what stood out the most...I would request the graduating Marines to sing the Marine Corp hymn... Wow, always gave me goosebumps!
In 1969 I had to attend here to get a free trip across a big pond to a tropical \paradise\. Was assured I would get there but no guarantees to get back.
In 1990, my high school counselor told me about an all expenses paid, all inclusive resort I could spend the summer at. He put me in touch with a travel agent dressed in a blue uniform with shiny shoes who made it sound even better. Next thing I knew I was headed from dreary ole' Arkansas to this west coast vacation paradise. Was I misled? Well, the food was mediocre, the accomodations were spartan, to say the least. The swimming pool was spacious and deep, although the diving board was very high. The staff were, well, pushy to say the least. But it was free, they got that part right. Best part? 13 weeks later I was a Marine. UUURRRRAAHH!
One of our greatest moments of family pride was watching our son graduate from Marine basic training. The events were expertly and honorably executed. The grounds are picturesque too.
