Iconic Austin place. Good food. Make sure to get the bbq mutton! They just added a drink place on the outside patio that I cant wait to try.

I really want this place to be great but upon receiving our food I noticed it was no thrills about the items we selected. The brisket was barely smoked lack salt and pepper taste the ribs were not fresh you can always tell by the dryness in the bone the sides tasted like either out of a can or watered down. The sauce was a bit watery as well with a ketchup taste. Again… I was really rooting for this place The customer service was top notch though

I remember coming here back in March or April and being so eager to come back, I came back today and hyped my boyfriend up for this place with my own excitement, and was so embarrassed when we came and the chicken had a weird color on the inside, the brisket was majority fat, and the pieces we were able to get without fat lacked flavor and seasoning. Beans were WAY too sweet, tasted like sugar beans, and the Mac was greasy and heavy. We could only eat a couple bites then threw the rest in the trash as we literally could not stomach to finish the rest. On top of that, when getting served our food, the man plating it had just walked back inside and was handling our food with his bare hands. All around disappointed I spent 37 on plates and didn’t even eat more than 6 bites. Really wanted another positive experience but can’t after throwing my money away.

I was doing some work in the area and was driving by this place every day so I decided to stop. From the minute I walk in I was treated kindly. I was greeted by what I would assume is one of the owners, probably the wife of the cook, who would be the other owner. I'm a white man. And I don't normally go into a place with any thought or concern about what color I am, what color the owner is, I generally go into a place based on the fact that I want to eat some barbecue at my place I haven't eaten at before. But in the world we live in today and the volatility of relations between different races I feel like, well I want to say this because it had a substantial and significant impact on me. I was welcomed so openly, honestly, and with genuine kindness that it wasn't until I left there I realize just how comfortable and welcomed the people of this establishment made me feel. I am grateful. Thank you.. This is my Austin, Texas. I was born here, and this is what Austin, Texas is about.... And the brisket is as good or better than Coopers, Blacks, Franklin's, or whatever else place I can name.. Yes it's that good.. Cant say much on anything else they serve, I got a half a pound of brisket, 4 pieces of bread and some barbecue sauce.. and it far exceeded my expectations, it was absolutely perfect. If you are a BBQ lover, save yourself the drive, this place can stand side-by-side with any of those big name places.
