If you have a US credit car you have to use certain pumps and then pay inside.

Just to be alert: for foreign people that pay with credit card (from outside France) in the fuel station, be aware!!!: due to French policy, with whatever amount you refill your car, you will be charged for 120 euro!!! Then, in a day or two, they restore what is left up to the 120 eur they took. They make it for security reasons, but be sure you have enough credit in your car. Otherwise you won't be able to refill! !
