I was very impressed with the service I received from the team at Saffron Walden Homebase this afternoon. I arrived at 3.59 just as they were closing and wanted to return an item. The young man at the door said “No problem”. I then realised I hadn’t got my face mask so I resigned myself to a return trip the next day. Undeterred, his colleague offered to find me a mask, which he promptly did and I was able to complete the transaction. How about that for service!

Quite possibly the most magnificent Christmas displays this side of the German markets.
Having worked here myself hunudreds of years ago, I am trying my best to support this struggling store and rely on it heavily for DIY and garden items. Without it, I would have to drive further (probably Haverhill) - particularly on a Sunday. I do find the staff to be lacking in enthusiasm, especially at the till - at the age of 18, I would at least smile at my customers and engage, not continue conversations with my colleagues, but I guess they are facing the potential loss of work, if the threats turn to reality - ironically, the store will probably be flattened and turned into flats, which at some point will need many of the items the store offers.
I like this place, i liked it even before i knew i liked it and i like it a lot. Good place, good staff,
Good for the stuff u need in a hurry, but better off going to a bigger store (eg Bishops Stortford or Harlow) as its a small shop with not as many items
