Had Sunday lunch here with my daughter and the service, ambience and food were wonderful. Hearty portions, good choice on menu, old world traditional pub with a friendly welcome. Would definitely eat here again.

Went for a meal for the husband's birthday. Turned up 20 minutes early but table was ready and they were more than happy for us to sit at the table and wait for our son to turn up. Food arrived very quickly once ordered. Nice selection of Gins to choose from so I was happy. Very, very nice food and dessert was amazing!!! Can highly recommend this place

Lovely friendly staff who can't do enough to make ur visit very pleasant. Nice atmosphere and great service. The food is surprisingly exceptional. Went for the first time last night and went back again tonight.. Lauren was extremely great getting a taxi organized for us when my bad back went. Thanks so much and we will definitely be back x

A traditional hostelry with an ancient, yet comfortable feeling, a convenient location for the city centre, York Minster and other city centre attraction and only 5 minutes walk from the market and main shopping area. There's a warm welcome, with a friendly smile. The prices were excellent and the lunchtime meal offer this week (just short of 8) included a beer, or soft drink. Wine was at a supplement. The meal was an excellent pub standard, and the host didn't bat an eyelid when we asked to change items on the standard menu (for health reasons new potatoes rather than chips, for taste reasons, cooked veg rather than peas). The puddings were excellent too (and spoilt our attempt at healthy eating - but worth it!). If you're looking for a pub for a lunchtime meal on a quick trip to York, with a pleasant ambiance, this is the place to be. It's good in the evenings too, with live music many nights of the week, and an equally hospitable atmosphere. I will certainly return.
