They say 'better late than never'; the Rose of India have clearly taken this to heart. When I phoned up this evening hoping for a delicious, hot curry to be delivered within a reasonable timeframe, I didn't realise that a veritable oddysey lay ahead... I was initially advised that my food would arrive 70 minutes after ordering (already a lengthy wait). However, I was happy to wait, knowing that a 4.4 star rated meal would be in store. Unfortunately, it was not to be. 70 minutes came and went, yet there was no knock on the door, only the rumbling of mine and my family's empty stomachs to comfort us. I phoned up 2, 3, 4 times, each call met with flagrant lies promising imminent arrival, discounts and free beers. The restaurant was clearly struggling with a busy Saturday night and a little honesty would've been appreciated - they were rated 4.4 stars, after all, so it would've been worth the wait. Eventually, after a whopping 2 hours and 15 minutes, a whole 135 minutes/8100 seconds (the equivalent runtime of 2020 oscar-winning film Parasite), we saw the glorious shine of a deliveryman's headlights on the driveway, braving the wintery weather befitting the coldest August bank holiday on record. The promised discount did materialise, however the beers did not (possibly due to the fact they were promised only after the driver had set off on his merry way). The curry itself? Honestly, frustratingly, mostly lovely; a curiously liquidised saag panneer and distinct lack of king prawns in the king prawn korma aside. Of course, we were so utterly ravenous, it could've been chicken nuggets in a jar of sharwood's sauce and we'd have been happy. All in all, a very good curry, but terrible customer service, and avoid the delivery if you wish your food to arrive before the apocalypse.

Excellent meal and relaxed evening. Popular venue but not noisy or over trendy.
