Two years ago I happened to walk to the Temple on the night of the Autumn Equinox. There was no one out. The Harvest Moon enchanted the city. By the time I was standing in front of the Temple the moon was rising on the crown and it seemed to hang there. It was absolute Magic!

One of the most notable remains of the Roman Forum and also one of the oldest. Sadly little remains other than 3 columns, a piece of the entablature and podium It was built as the Temple of Castor and Pollux to celebrate the victory in 495 BC at the Battle of Lake Regillus by Castor and Pollux, the twin sons of Zeus and Leda. Their cult came to Rome from Greece. It serves many functions during the Republican period, eventually falling into disrepair and by the end of the Pagans, Christianity found no need to refurbish or renovate it, thus leaving us with little that remains.
