Dr. McKenna was referred to us by both UW Madison urology and our Swedish American Pediatrician when we found out our original UW surgery was out of network and wouldn’t be covered by our insurance. This was our families first experience with Mercy Health and Dr. McKenna and both exceeded our expectations. Dr. McKenna performed surgery on our 20 month old son , which from the beginning can be a stressful and nerve wrecking experience for any parent. From making the appointment, to the consultation, surgery day and post op care, Dr. McKenna and his staff went above and beyond to make the experience as easy as possible for us. Everything was explained to us in an easy to understand way and Dr McKenna was personable with a wonderful bedside manner and spoke to our child directly as a patient, even though he is just a baby. He was relatable, intelligent and easy to give our trust to as a surgeon and medical professional. When I originally got on google to make our referral appointment, I noticed he had a prior review that upon first impression did not look good. I was hesitant, before actively clicking into the review to see that the poor experience only had to do with an appointment time and not doctor/patient interaction. Pediatric surgery is a big deal to parents, so I wanted to contribute our great experience so that future parents/patients can feel confident and comfortable that Dr. McKenna and the Mercy Health team will give you the same great experience we had, no hesitation.
