Went to the petrol station yesterday and whilst I was there I was going to buy an energy drink ready for my night shift. I got to the till and the customer assistant said I needed ID to purchase the energy drink as you need to be 16 but look 25. Fair enough, normally I would say ‘sorry I don’t have any and put it back’ bearing in mind I’m 21. However, the assistant was happy enough to serve me petrol in which you also have to be 16 to purchase. I explained this and stated that I didn’t understand the reasoning of serving me one thing that you need to be 16 for but not the other. It’s like serving me alcohol but not cigarettes. It doesn’t make sense. Also, I was driving and on my own which you need to be 17 for so surely she could have used some common sense.
