We came across Namaste Restaurant in search of spices to cook some Indian food (hard to find in Lorient!). The staff and owner were quite friendly and went out of their way to provide the crucial missing ingredients. We promised to return and try out their food ... which we did today and what a treat! The ambience is cozy, comfortable and authentic. They take care during COVID with masks & social distancing, which gave us peace of mind. Service was top with meals well paced and our drink glasses always full. You can tell this place is well received with a constant flow of clients for eating and take-out. The food is arguably some of the best Indian/Pakistani/South Asian cuisine I've tried (having eaten across Pakistan, Dubai, Nepal, Paris, UK, Toronto, Montreal, San Francisco, New York, New Caledonia and my Mum's kitchen ). We started off with a refreshing traditional drink of Lassi (yoghurt based sweet drink), followed by potatoe pakoras. These were crisp, well done, delicately garnished with aromatic spices. Also, served with 3 condiments (mint chutney, mango/carrot pickles & tarmarind sauce) that were vibrant & complemented the pakoras exceptionally! For main course, we ate Lamb (Agneau) Shahi Korma (we requested to not have dried fruits added to which the chef happily obliged) and Chicken Biryani, with fluffy, freshly cooked Naan & rice. The lamb was beautifully tender & flavourful in a sauce that was sensational. The Biryani was finger-licking deliciousness ...right balance of spice and flavor along with tenderly cooked chicken. For dessert, we tried some delicious ice cream and sooji (semolina) cake - it reminded me of my childhood & mum's cooking! All in all, you can tell they cook with heart & passion, providing a wonderful gastronomic experience. We look forward to return and try out other items on the menu!
