Some of the warmest, most welcoming people I have ever had the chance to daven, eat, and chat with. As a visiting student, I didn't know anyone in Reading when I first arrived. The community at the RHC welcomed me with open arms. They invited me to join in their services, to eat at their homes, and to participate in their events. I am deeply grateful to the community for their kindness, and I hope anyone visiting Reading and in need of a shul will pay them a visit.

I attended this Shul for approximately the first 20 years of my life and was very happy with the Synagogue during that time. I wish the community success for the future.

Reading Hebrew Congregation Synagogue. The Community is a warm friendly community in a beautiful building, built in 1900. The Community was established in 1885 when services were held in the home of the Minister. During WW1 refugees from Belgium were billeted in the Synagogue, and a number of the members went away to fight. During WWII there was a large influx of people from London such that four Synagogues were established in the town as well as Newbury. There were very active Cheder and youth club over the years. Habonim had camps nearby and Hanoar Hatzioni was established in the 1970's. The Community has for many years had a very successful programme of Welcome Days for Schools whop visit from a wide surrounding area. To find out more we have a printed history Portrait of a Community. The Community continues to have regular orthodox services and social events. to find out mopre follow the link

It's funny how somebody can bully children into being scared of going to what was once a second home and then when they come back, try and bully them into saying they weren't bullied...
