I used to like nothing better than going for a proper swim in a full length swimming pool. Unlike Rivermead leisure centre. Not really ideal for swimming but more a place you bring children to play in waves and slides. But Reading Central Pool has full size swimming pool and small pool for beginners small children can learn to swim. And diving board of 3 different heights. But I believe this pool is earmarked for Demolition. What a shame. Where to go Swimming if this happens? Ideally situated in centre of Reading walking distance to town.
It is a sad day as Reading says goodbye to it's only proper swimming facility. The Central Pool has limped on for nearly two decades, since it was first earmarked for demolition, but it remained the only pool in Reading capable of hosting galas and diving competitions. Now Reading's aquatic clubs will need to look to facilities in neighbouring towns, or simply die.
Dated but functional, this 1960's template pool is still in fair order despite the council cuts. Recommended for its large charging area, clean water, good pool temperatures and separate 5m deep diving pool. Low points include the weak showers, paid-for parking over 1 hour, and municipal feel. Still, a great place to go for fitness or family swimming.
It got closed in December 2017. But surely had great experience here. The pool is properly maintained and is quite big. Alternate pool is now opened at Rivermead, Reading. Not sure if this pool is again going to reopen.
the pool is always clean and at a good temperature. The changing rooms and showers are exactly what you would expect for a public pool, I don't know what some of the other reviewers were expecting to be honnest. And every interaction with a member of staff has always been pleasant. I like swimming here!
An essential sports and recreation facility providing 25m lane swimming with separate areas for diving, learners and beginners. Now showing its age but still fully functional.
This is less of a review and more of a Eulogy. I'm extremely sorry to look out of my window and see the relentless demolition of this classic gem of 1960s architecture. Since the introduction of barbed wire along its back wall it has seemed like a pastiche of Soviet Cold War building. No longer will I be able to imagine the changing of the guards or visualize Elton John filming 'Nikita' outside. A sad loss.
