Fascinating things can be learned while visiting the tunnels. The visit is in small groups with a local guide that explains in detail the history, purpose and how people where living underground during the Britain - German war in 1930s. If you book a tour and there are only 2-3 people the guide can take you down the tunnels or you can just reschedule for a different hour during the day free of charge. They give you safety helmet, warmer clothes advice especially if you visit in colder weather. Flip flops or similar aren't recommended plus a small part of the tunnels has water on the ground but there's rubber foot path to walk on. It's a real reminder about harsh living condition for children and there parents had to endure, it makes you think about the nonsense things we complain today. The tunnel is easy to find, there are two car parks one right next to the entrance, the other is on the main street approximate 5 minutes walk away. Coaches can also drop/pick up there passengers right in front of the entrance. The city centre in a short walking range, can take walks on the beach.

Myself and my family had a wonderful experience at Ramsgate Tunnels. We always like to go somewhere with a bit of history and we definitely got that with this tour! All the volunteers are extremely friendly, knowledgeable and passionate. Our tour guide David was extremely informative. As we have a tendency to walk slowly and take lots of photos, we'd like to especially thank Richard who made sure we didn't get lost and for telling us so many interesting facts and stories, which made our experience absolutely perfect! It's a must see in Ramsgate! Thanks again Richard!
Absolutely wonderful cultural experience. Staffed by passionate volunteers who tell moving stories about people in Ramsgate's history. Fantastic value for money.
Really interesting and insightful tour! Videos, imagery, walks - I would highly recommend for anyone to visit (of any age)! It’s such good value for money, if you’re looking for an activity to do in Thanet, do this!
An amazing place to visit. The tour guide we had was so informative and really easy to listen to. Highly recommend the experience. There is nothing quite like being in the tunnels whilst hearing the history of the place, feeling the the cold and being immersed in darkness. Wear comfortable footwear and bring a cardigan / jacket.
I've done 3 tours now. The guides are so knowledgeable and make the tours really interesting. My family used the tunnels during the war and my older sisters used to play in them as kids, they also went on the little train when it was operating. Highly recommended.
We really enjoyed our trip here even though it was during the COVID-19 pandemic. Parking nearby was a pain because the ticket machine was not working and the number you had to call wasn't working because we were so low down so there was no signal. Nice welcome from staff. We were waiting for a while because there were some late comers. Would recommend starting on time and if someone is late, it is their own fault. We were waiting for about 10 minutes for other people to arrive. The tour was good, but did seem quite amateur. Could definitely spice things up a little bit and make it a bit more engaging and interesting. We were disappointed to find that one of the main tunnels was off limits due to the pandemic (wish we had been told this in advance), but the other tunnels were still good. Would not recommend for children under the age of about 15. There was quite a young girl on the tour with her parents who was causing a scene 50% of the time. Just don't think you can appreciate this sort of thing at a young age. Its also a fairly long tour and a lot of listening for a child to endure. Would recommend if you are in the area. Definitely bring a coat and sensible footwear.
Shut now but enjoyed tours a couple of years ago. Deserves as much funding as possible to retain local history
