I recently booked three of the Silo Apartments for our Book Club girls' annual Christmas weekend away. The group wanted a place where we could all stay, cook and dine together. We booked The Grand, Waters Edge, and Harbour View apartments, using the Grand as our base to dine together. All three apartments were very comfortable, well equipped, cleverly designed and spotlessly clean. Location wise, they were perfect. The Silos overlook the Raglan Harbour and are next to the Raglan Wharf which has beautiful shops, such as Soul Shoes, Tony Sly Pottery and a popular Fish & Chips establishment, where you can sit and watch the activity on the wharf and the fishing boats. Several of the girls expressed interest in returning to stay there with their husbands, and if I was looking to take my husband for a weekend away in Raglan, the Silos would be my first port of call.
Quiet, comfortable, on the waters edge with cafes and a bar nearby. 15 minutes easy walk or 2 minutes drive into town.
Stayed in the Penthouse. Fabulous. No laundry but plumbing is there. No lift so only for the healthy but the climb, three floors is so worth it. Loved it.
So here's the skinny. It's four floors I believe, we stayed on the third. You have to climb the stairs to get there, so you gots to carry whats you brought. But....once you step inside the room....the stress melts away. A king size bed, tucked behind a wall, but not jammed in. A wonderful couch that is DEEP and wonderful to sit on (I so wish I had taken pics to show it). A room full of windows to look out on the water. And, a balcony, with a large table, to sit outside and enjoy. I have to give one shout out to the bed. It was AMAZING. My one thought for the host...get some new pillows that are not as flat. Ours were pretty soft and flat, and we had to pile up two to sleep comfortable. There is a nice kitchen, which we did use. And coffee and tea are provided. There is no washer / dryer, which was not an issue for us, but may be for some. To get to "downtown" Raglan (a little oxymoronic), it is a short walk, maybe 7-10 mins. There is a fine restaurant that is just out the front door, which we found just fine to eat at both nights (The Wharf Kitchen and Bar), as we could make the walk easily. Overall, we'll be back.
Whilst I didn't stay here or enter the silos, ive given 5 stars for the idea, the location. When the new board walk is complete it will be a fabulous area and top spot for a holiday.
This is the most AMAZING place to stay we are definitely coming back great people great atmosphere great food at the Wharf and great fish and chips great shops great coffee what more do we need.
Great and busy little place to visit. Limited parking though
