They're thieves. I think at least one of the security guards and some of the employees are involved in a scam that works like that: a client comes at check-out with a cart full of articles he/she bought; the cashier scans the products and hands the buyer a long coupon printed by the cashing machine. Usually the names of the articles on it are short names or something near a code, nobody pays much attention to it. At that moment, the security guard, which \vigilantly\ supervised the entire operation, breaks forth, scolding the cashier for omitting to scan an article. The cashier apologize and scans again the article in question, hands the client one more coupon and the buyer pays again for it. Most of the clients dont't bother to check the first coupon for the \omitted\ article, so they come to pay twice for the same stuff. Another method involves typing into the cash machine the code of an article more expensive than the one the client actually bought. I was somehow puzzled when the security guard asked me once, after checkout, to show him the coupon, which he dutifully wrote down into a book. In my case it was a dozen apple pies (1.19 RON/pc.) instead of 12 seed buns (0.39 RON/pc.). I only saw this only when I got home, and of course I didn't go back at the store, for a refund, which is exactly what the scammers count on. I imagine at the end of the day the security guard and the cashier do the math using that book and share the \profit\. If however someone observes the \error\ and vociferates, the cashier apologizes and calls a manager for reimbursment, but this happens very infrequent. Be aware and keep your eyes open!
